No other local establishment pays homage to the cocktail like the newly opened Chop and Swizzle, “Akron’s first true hand-crafted cocktail bar.”

The drink menu features innovative recipes based on drinks made popular during the Prohibition (1920-1933) and Polynesian (1950s and 1960s) eras. Prohibition Era drinks include the first drink co-owner Danny Allyn ever concocted—the Aloe Water Martini, made with Watershed gin, elderflower cordial, aloe water (made from the aloe vera plant), orange, and mint. Polynesian offerings include the Lime In Dee Coconut, made with vanilla rum, lime, and coconut cream. Fans of Key lime pie will like this one. Bar décor is half speakeasy and half tiki bar, and customers are encouraged to be adventurous. Don’t worry, if you don’t like your drink, servers will replace it with another selection—there are nearly 50 from which to choose.

As for the dining experience, co-owner Chef Dick Kanatzar serves up flavorful farm-to-plate offerings from his gourmet food truck, aka Chef’s Dick Kitchen. Offerings frequently change: one night they included Parmesan truffle tater tots, short rib tacos, and poutine. Chef Dick also uses sustainable seafood.

Oh, and if you like historic buildings, check it out—Chop and Swizzle is inside what was once a fire station that was built in the 1880s.
